Android P to introduce redesigned navigation and multitasking UI

Last month Google released the Android P developer preview 1 for pixel devices. The final version is said to be released during the third quarter this year hopefully in time with the new pixel 3 devices.

As android versions such as the MIUI and stock android uses horizontal and vertical multitasking arrangement, the New Android version uses horizontal arrangement same as like in the MIUI. The apps will be shown one behind the other.

It is also reported that the current 3 button navigation will be changed to just the home and back key. To access the recent apps, users will have to swipe the home button upwards.

The report also mentions that only the home button will be visible in the home screen where the back button will disappear after a few seconds. If the previous reports are correct, Google is likely going in the way of gesture-based navigation just like what Apple did with iPhone X.
