Facebook will be developing its own software-centric processors. Looking at a new job listing in Facebook career page, it appears the company is preparing to enter a completely different territory, system-on-chips or SoCs.
The listings make a specific mention of the in-house Facebook processor to use in AI-related products. Considering Facebook’s recent efforts, it seems likely that these chips could be used for powering the various AI features of Facebook. In addition, as Facebook has huge data centres, the chip could also be used to power those in order to filter the user data stored on servers. The chip can also be put in inside an Oculus VR headset. Lastly, the company is also rumoured to be working on an AI-powered smart speaker that could prove to be a popular product among consumers.
